The founder

Stephen J. Crawford, Founder & Chief Executive Officer. Stephen Crawford has practiced financial-services and commercial-lending law for more than thirty years. He is admitted to practice in New York (1994), Ohio (1997), and Pennsylvania (2016), and before federal district and bankruptcy courts in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Crawford Law LLC’s representative clients include Federal National Mortgage Association (“Fannie Mae”) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (“Freddie Mac”).

He has worked at the intersection of law and electronic transactions since the field began — his article “eSign: Now It’s Real” appeared in Mortgage Banking magazine in 2009 — and Signifyde is the continuation of that work. Stephen authored the UCC Article 12 control-system framework and requirements for business-to-business transactions presented to MISMO’s commercial eNote workgroup, and presented the Article 12 update at the MISMO Fall Summit in 2023. He founded Signifyde to turn the law he practices into infrastructure.

The company

Signifyde’s platform is commercial lending’s legal digital infrastructure: it verifies business identities and signing authority, controls commercial electronic originals under UCC Article 12, runs closings the way lenders’ counsel run them, and delivers attorney-issued legal assurance products — standardized legal work a counterparty can rely on, at a known price, with the evidence preserved.
